Conservatives on the Christian right exalt in the belief they will help fulfill Biblical prophecy. They will, but not the one of their religious fantasy. They prophesy with vicious indignation about what God will do to America for providing all Americans with equal protection under democratic law.
While they spout their pious, mean, angry, bigoted, intolerant, sexist, racist, sadistic, vain, and homophobic brand of prophecy; they ignore, either willingly or ignorantly, the words of the Bible's most celebrated prophet, the prophet Isaiah. The prophet Christians believe foretold the coming of Jesus Christ.
In The Book Of Isaiah, chapter 6: 8 - 11 the prophet Isaiah, citing his "Vision of God in the Temple" said: 8. "And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' then I said, Here am I! Send me.
9. And he said, 'go, and say to this people: Hear and hear, but do not understand; see and see, but do not perceive. 10. Make the heart of this people fat, and their ears heavy; and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.'
11. Then I said, How long, O Lord? And he said: 'until cities lie waste without inhabitants, and houses without men, and the land is utterly desolate, and the Lord removes men far away and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land is utterly desolate.'
The Christian right will insist with righteous indignation that if this prophecy applies to America at all, then the reference has to be about liberals and their "godless behavior". They insist that God will punish America for gay marriage and abortion. But apparently they do not believe that God will punish America for 1. The rape and slavery of 20 million Black Africans; 2. the rape and attempted genocide of Native Americans; 3. the systematic killing of unarmed black American youths by American police; or 4. the destruction and pollution of Living Planet Earth and her land, air, and water that provides life to all of God's creatures.
Can the Christian Right really believe that God love fetuses and hate gays more than he hates the abominations cited above. Undoubtedly fundamentalist on the Christian Right must believe God is psychotic. But that's the lot of a people possessed by vanity; sexist, racist, and homophobic hate; ignorance; a superiority complex; bigotry; intolerance; and greed. The Lord proclaims their punishment is that they will "Hear and hear, but do not understand; see and see but do not perceive, and have fat hearts, heavy ears, and shut eyes."And it will be thus until the nation is laid waste.
Appropriately the Christian Right votes for conservative Republicans who will make the prophecy of the prophet Isaiah become an American tragedy. Too many Christians on the right claim to be what they are not. They blaspheme Jesus Christ when they claim The Christ but participate in behaviors and rhetoric Jesus Christ Rebukes. If they read the Gospels through the eyes of The Christ they would understand this. But, as Isaiah foretold, because of the heaviness of their hearts, "The Lord" will make them incapable of knowing the truth. And the nation will suffer as they reap the fruits of bigotry, hate, intolerance, and greed.
"The Lord" has said that a people guided by intolerance, bigotry, and hate will hear but will not understand. They will see but will not perceive. And they will continue to do so until the nation is in ruins. In America, they will be what the GOP allegedly call "Helen Keller Republicans."
Can the Christian right believe they are doing God's Will when they vote for conservative Republicans who promote and perpetuate these abominations against humanity? The GOP is on record vowing to gut America's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the USPS, Unions, Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare, and any other thing that benefit the common good; and arrogantly don't even pretend to provide anything to replace any of it.
Red States governed by Conservative Republicans are washed in poverty, jobless, and neglect. But the prophet also warned us about sadistic Republican policies. In The Book Of Isaiah, Chapter 10: Verses 1 - 4, the prophet warns:
1."Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression, 2. to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their rights, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey! 3. What will you do on the day of punishment, in the storm which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you hide your wealth?"
Isn't it time for Americans on the Christian Right to embrace Christianity and political decisions that reflects the morality and values of Jesus Christ rather than the morality and rhetoric of greedy, predatory Republican politicians and their wealthy donors?
