WHEN WORKING CONSERVATIVES TRUST FALSE NARRATIVES.
Somewhere in the conservative movement, white working poor, white working class and white middle class conservatives accepted the lie that the only true American patriot is a tough talking, gun toting, flag waving Republican who hates everything that protects and benefits the common good. They spout expressions about family values,"my faith", and freedom as if they are the only people in America who possess those values.
Somewhere in the process they also accepted the lie that in order to be a true American they had to hate any part of democracy that had benefits for the common good--an expression that includes every American regardless of race, color, sex, ethnic background, religion, and sexual orientation.
IS PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE AN OXYMORON?
But just because you are a conservative does not mean you must reject progressive ideas. Just because you are conservative doesn't mean you can't be progressive. You can be a progressive conservative without destroying everything you value about what is good for you, your family, and America. This assumes, of course, that you care about your family and America, especially American democracy.
Being a progressive conservative isn't an oxymoron if it serves your best interest and the best interest of the common good. But if you believe that being a conservative means you must support every outrageous inflammatory comment hoisted up by the lying or clueless faction of conservatives in the Republican party, you are more than just a conservative, you likely are a tool and a fool.
BEING CONSERVATIVE DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD
1. ... not be a critical thinker and go about life accepting lies from right wing conservatives pundits and politicians as if they were true.
2. ...support policies, budgets, and rhetoric that only value and support wealthy Americans and devalues you and your family.
3. ... support rhetoric that moves America towards anarchy which will make her ripe for a take over by an American Oligarchy. Think about what that will do for your family values and your freedom?
4. ...support budget and policies that destroy labor unions, destroy the middle class, deprive you and your family of access to affordable health care, and makes affordable education impossible for working poor, working class, and middle class Americans because they are not wealthy.
5. ...support rhetoric and policies that deprive your mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, and other women you care about of equal rights, equal pay, and personal dignity.
6. ...vote for conservative Republicans who do not promote the best interest of America nor the best interest of you and your family--such as jobs, affordable health care, social security, medicare, a safe infrastructure, affordable education, and women's rights.
To be sure, there is nothing inherently wrong about being conservative. Progressives are often conservative about some things while being liberal about other things. One can be conservative about economics while being liberal about social issues. And there is nothing wrong about being conservative on social issues as long as it doesn't violate the freedom, economic rights, personal dignity, personal safety, and civil rights of other American citizens whatever may be their origin or personal choices.
If patriotic conservatives want to help save the freedom and democracy they claim to value so much, then they should become progressive conservatives. The first step in becoming a progressive conservative is the realization that the lying faction of the conservative party doesn't work for America. Statistics from so called Red State reveal that conservative Republicans also don't work for conservatives voters from the working poor, working class, and middle class.
Voting for conservative Republicans offers nothing of value for working poor, working class, and middle class conservatives.
They work for the Wealthy. Right wing conservative Republicans work for the 1% who want your children to be uneducated underpaid servants of the rich. What are you going to do about that?
