It is disconcerting that so many staunch conservative Republican Christians believe that the vile, divisive, hateful, and sometimes vulgar proclamations made by the faces and voices of the conservative right are patriotic, brilliant, and irrepressible. That they still consider themselves Christians in spite of holding to beliefs validating behavior that are diametrically opposed to the teaching of Jesus Christ is more than just disconcerting; it is ludicrous.
While we have no way of knowing what is in the heart of Republican voting conservative Christians, we have no problem hearing the loud voices of the conservative right. They are the voices of division and hate. They advocate absolute disdain for the old, the poor, the young, women, fair pay, affordable health care, the working class, the middle class and any policies that advance the common good but do not first increase the powerful wealth of the wealthy.
As a reminder and a caution to conservative Christians who wish to remain on the good side of Jesus Christ, we offer these proverbs from a very wise man given credit for the brilliant book in the Bible, the book of Proverbs. These proverbs are important considerations for conservative Republican Christians right because many on the Christian right profess that their lives are guided by The Bible, the book most of them call the word of God.
"There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven, which are an abomination to him. Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devices wicked plans, Feet that run to evil, A false witness who utter lies, And one who spread strife among brothers." Proverbs 6: 16 - 19.
Unfortunately, the arrogance so prevalent on the religious right does not recognize as lies what are obviously not true to rational critical thinking Americans.
"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent man ignores an insult. He who speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness uttes deceit. There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but the lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan good have joy." Probverbs 12: 12 - 20.
Very Un-Christ like, many "Christians" on the conservative right make up a large part of the audience of divisive pundits like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh who unabashedly create false news and spread lies that produce envy, hate, self-destruction, distrust, and unhappiness.
"Wealth brings many friends, But a poor man is deserted by his friends. "A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tell lies will not escape. He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding will find good. A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tells lies will perish. He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, And He will repay him for his good deed. What is desirable of a man is his kindness, And it is better to be a poor man that a liar." Proverbs 19: 4 - 5, 8 - 9, 17, 22.
"One man gives freely, yet grows all the richer and another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want." Proverbs 11: 24.
"A liberal man will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it. he who diligently seeks good, seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it. He who trusts in his riches will wither, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. He who troubles his household will inherit wind, and the fool will be the servant of the wise." Proverbs 11; 25 - 29.
