On Domestic And Foreign Enemies Of America; The Conservative Assault On Democracy, Families,The Middle Class, Earth; And The Republican Party's Addiction To The Immoral Politics Of Religion, Hate, Misogyny, Greed, Ignorance, And Fear.
Denying Civil Rights, Personal Freedom, and Personal Dignity Is Homophobic And Selfish.
Any time any person or group of people feel righteously and morally compelled to deny another person or another group of people their Civil Rights, their Personal Freedom, or their Personal Dignity, it is because they believe it will never happen to them.
Many a racist fascist have no problem with denying civil liberties to Black Americans. They include among those denials the right to a decent public education, viable jobs , fair housing and fair mortgage rates, business loans, equitable commercial auto loans rates, and the absence of racial profiling. But they would feel very different about all of those forms of bigotry were he or she to awake up one morning and discover that his or her complexion was as dark as the Ace of Spade and their ability to change that color gone forever. They would especially think differently when they realized that had lost what some assumed was their right to avoid racial profiling, and receive fair housing and fair mortgages, and commercial auto loan rates available to their white counterparts.
The world becomes a different place when the violations of civil liberties happens to you or to someone you love or otherwise have affection for and care about. Some very influential politicians who were adamant in their opposition to the civil liberties of citizens in the LGBT community have changed their minds about acceptance of gays when they had to acknowledge that their own children were gay. The world of homophobia and hate becomes a different place when your child is gay.
But even that won't be enough for some who hate members of a particular group. All forms of hate and fear for any group of the human race is homophobic and selfish. Some homophobes would rather see their progeny "die and go to hell" before they would give up their hate and change their position about a group they despise. They revel in their "right" to deny freedom, civil liberties, and personal dignity to anyone who is not like them. Many so-called Christians will hide behind the false Christian banner of "hate the sin, love the sinner". But, this tepid denial of bigotry for the LGBT community is false for at least two reasons. It assumes that these haters are capable of doing what most haters are humanly incable of doing. And, worse, it is fraught with feelings of moral superiority, religious superiority, and the belief that they alone are in possession of absolute truth.
Any people who are willing to engage in or support ethnic profiling, sexual profiling, racial profiling, and other kinds of profiling for the purpose of denying civil liberties to anyone or any group should first consider that it could happen to them, too.
The next time anyone feels inclined to deny any person or group their civil rights, their personal freedom, and their personal dignity they should first search their memory or their city library, if they still have one, for the long list of human beings who have been denied, imprisoned, enslaved, cleansed, killed, and "exterminated" by their own kind because they were buffered by feelings of superiority about religion, morality, race, ethnic background, and other absurdities.
