Racism trumps everything, even common sense and patriotic love for America. But that fact doesn't explain enough, the unrelenting attacks on America, on Democracy, and on the middle class by conservatives Republicans.
To be sure, a large contingent of white Americans really believe that they won't be happy until Barack Obama is replaced by a white man in the White House. But, it is too easy to suggest that white conservatives, both citizens and congressional members alike hate Obama so much that they would destroy America before they see this Black Man of a President succeed.
The problem with that thinking is that the conservative attack on America by Right Wing Republicans in the nation's capitol and in the states began even before Barack Obama assumed the Office of the President. Obama's Black Presidency only served to validate in the minds of racist white Americans the legitimacy of their obstructionist behavior, their opposition of the President, and their seditious attacks on America.
With the full support of suicidal or in the least masochistic racists, President Barack Obama became a convenient Boogie Man for white Americans who can't stomach the thought of a Black President and a Black First Lady. They would rather die and go to Hell before they accept his leadership, even if he were leading them a better life or even to the storied "promised land".
With few exceptions, being mindful of economic class and members of the American aristocracy, seemingly white conservatives hate being led by a black man even more than they hate facing their once greatest fear--exemplified in the scary rage producing mantra: "would you want your daughter to marry one?"
Conservatives want Americans to believe that President Obama is giving hard working "white people's money to lazy black Americans and lazy liberals who want to live off "entitlements" for which they have not worked for and to which they are not entitled. But liberals and Democrats have tired of the patriotic arrogance and hypocrisy of so called red states.
Caught up in the divisive and hateful rhetoric of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, et.al., the "heartland" bashes the USA government for being too big. And they bash Democrats for taking too much money from the rich and giving too much money to the poor, the elderly, lazy black folks, and lazy immigrants who should just go away.
They ignore facts like tax data from a recent presidential election which reveals that of the 32 states that received more federal dollars that they contributed in taxes, 27 or 84.4% are Republican states. And of the 18 states that contributed more tax dollars than they received, 14 or 77.8% are Democrat states.
If they could get beyond the racism and the emotional language of false patriotism, anger, fear, and hopelessness--red state conservatives, who depend so much on a government that cares for all people and not just for rich people, would realize at least one thing. Destruction of the middle class is a bigger threat to America than "entitlements" and demands that the corporate rich pay their fair share of taxes instead of living free, as many do, off the backs of hard working Americans.
If conservative Republicans really wanted to help the USA move forward and help Americans prosper, especially those in Red states who vote Republican, Republicans would try to help the President build the middle class. But the Republican controlled House of Representatives for almost three years have proposed no job bills to help the middle class or any class. But that same Republican controlled House of Representatives has voted against the creation of more than 10 million jobs including infrastructure jobs and jobs for veterans.
It is time for poor, working class, and middle class white Americans to wake up and smell the coffee. Right wing conservative Republicans don't obstruct and oppose Barack Obama so fervently because they hate him. They oppose him and his policies because they hate you. And they hate him for trying to help you. If Barack Obama catered to the wealthy and not poor, working class and middle class Americans, he would have little opposition. Of course some conservatives would still hate him. Some conservatives would hate Jesus. But that's a discussion for another day.
