It is important that Christians remember the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when we vote for president. Jesus said:"Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops."
When he thought he was whispering in the dark of the inner room, Mitt Romney made it very clear to his rich base that he believes 47% of Americans do not pay taxes and are looking for government handouts. Of course, Mr. Romney later tried to retract and gloss over what he said about the 47%, but his words were recorded on camera for all to see and hear. And what a person says when he believes the cameras are not recording says much more about who he is than what he says when he knows the cameras are recording.
His diatribe against the 47% includes working class Christian Families and bread winners from every occupation that make up the backbone of America's middle-class: teachers, ministers, nurses, firemen, postal and other civil service workers, police officers, military personnel, clerks, construction workers, manufacturing workers in jobs not already outsourced to China, and many more too numerous to name here.
In the face of all his denials to the contrary, Mr Romney has detailed plans to cut education, Medicare, Social Security, Health Care, and tax deductions for middle-class Christian Families. His plans will cut education funding by at least 20%. And he proposes eliminating tax deductions for child care, charitable Christian donations, and home mortage interest payments. He will also make it much harder for more than a million of the children of middle-class Christian Families to earn a degree in higher education because he will reduce Pell Grants by $170 Billion.
Most of Mitt Romney's policies are designed to give more wealth to the wealthy and make life harder for middle-class Christian families. But the words of The Christ gives us one more reminder of what we shoud remember about those who are motivated more by money and things than they are about the lives and the quality of life of God's other Children who do not live among the wealthy. "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions."
